A note from curator Gretchen Smith I recently organized and co-curated a cross cultural exchange between artists in Baja California Norte and Hollywood California. It was quite a challenge as the venue wanted sculptures that were 5 feet or larger. As a sculptor and installation artist who shows abroad, I often have to consider how I am going to ship my art so I worked with flat sheets of metal that could easily be transported flat and assembled later. The kids at Casa Hogar Jazmin Elizabeth and Irma and her huspand Jose M Navarro assisted with the sculpture I designed called Tears for Ayotzinapa. We also had an amazing piece by Aida M Valencia on display which was a lifesized ice cream cart vendor made of mosaic and work by Julio Rosarito which was a ship made completely of trash. Finally we had work by Ermanno Scalas including a traditional lion made of clay. Pamela Joy Weiler also made the trip up to help install which was a amazing.
